Blood Transfusion

Many patients with blood disorders will need a transfusion of red cells or platelet cells at some stage.

These transfusions can often be given as an outpatient in the Nuffield Oncology Day Unit, are a typically given as an intravenous infusion over 90 minutes or so. The nurses usually talk patients through the whole process in some detail, and keep a close eye on our patients while they have the blood.
